Thank you to local restaurants

Kalmiopsis Elementary School would like to thank three local Brookings restaurants who stepped up to support our students during our Spring distance learning time by providing incentives for a job well done.

From April 24 to Friday, June 5, more than 765 free treats were awarded to students in grades K-5 at Kalmiopsis, redeemable at the local Dairy Queen, McDonalds, and Burger King.

The goals were set individually between teachers and students. Some examples of goals were to show up to online meetings or complete a number of assignments for the week.

Each Friday the teachers submitted names and the students picked up their ice cream treat the following week. The grades rotated restaurants each week to keep the interest going. The managers that we worked with were Mike at McDonald's, Heather at Dairy Queen, and Paige at Burger King.

A few of the comments from teachers are, "My student told me this was the only outing they got as they had to stay at home all the time." and "I have many more students coming to meetings because they are excited about the treats."

Thank you for supporting our young learners!
