Title I

Statement of Purpose

"The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments."(No Child Left Behind Act of 2001).

Kalmiopsis Elementary receives funds through the Title I Program. Title I is a federally-funded program that was developed to help disadvantaged students meet the same high standards expected of all our children. The emphasis is on high academic standards. Schools receive funds based on the number of children from low-income families, not on achievement scores. Money must be used to create opportunities that extend the learning time, reduce the amount of time students are pulled from the classroom for support programs, support instructional programs, implement accelerated curriculum, and use effective strategies based on research.
