Tsunamis
Brookings-Harbor School District grounds are the Red Cross evacuation center for a tsunami for the entire community. Staff discuss with students what they should do in case they are not at school during a tsunami warning. In case of a tsunami, students will be kept safe on the school grounds.
To prepare for a possible tsunami, we voluntarily hold drills during which teachers read preparedness tips and instructions that tell students what to do and where to go if a tsunami happens when they are not at school.
NOTE: Kalmiopsis Elementary is located on high ground and is, therefore, designated a tsunami safety zone.
