Brookings-Harbor School District 17C Title Vl Indian Education Program will conduct its annual Open Public Meeting on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 4 PM. The meeting will be held virtually via Zoom - find invitation on the district website www.brookings.k12.or.us - and the Livestream of the meeting will be available on the BHSD Youtube channel.
The 2023-24 grant application will be reviewed for approval. You may review the most recent district At-A-Glance Profile “State Report Card" for 2021-22 at www.ode.state.or.us/data/
If you are a member of the community and wish to provide public comment, please RSVP to join the Zoom or email your comments to [email protected] 24 hours ahead of the meeting, and your comments will be part of the public record.
INDIAN EDUCATIONIndian Education programs are special activities made available to schools by the Indian Education Programs office of the US Department of Education (USDE). The activities are developed by a Parent Committee made up of local parents, teachers, and at least one high school of Native American descent. They get ideas from other local parents, students and teachers in planning and operating a program that meets the academic, social, and cultural needs of Indian students in our schools.
Any students in K -12 who have Indian heritage are eligible for the program. The program is funded through the USDE. There is no cost to you or the school district for your child's participation. Students of Native American descent are eligible for the Title VI Indian Education Program services.
Students who are having difficulty in their studies can receive tutorial help. If this is not a current need, there are other services available. There are also Indian Resource Speakers who come into the classroom to share their traditional arts, foods, and cultures. Our local Indian Education Program provides classroom teachers with excellent Indian subject films, books, tips, and other resource materials which are used to enhance the Native American curriculum provided by the school district.
Our program is federally funded. The amount of money we receive is based on the number of students enrolled in the program. By enrolling your son or daughter you will be helping other students, even if yours doesn't need help at this time.
To qualify for the program, we need your tribal membership number.
